Laura Lagano Nutrition LLC’s brand of nutrition counseling represents a marked and
significant departure from conventional dietetics and healthcare. By investigating
the antecedents and triggers of health, we treat the whole patient, not simply a
set of symptoms. Applying the principles of functional medicine to nutrition and
lifestyle counseling, Laura develops comprehensive lifestyle plans. She relies on
scientific evidence and clinical experience to integrate mainstream nutrition (selectively)
with complementary and alternative practices. Laura treats each patient uniquely,
providing nutrition and health roadmaps based on individual needs, not population
recommendations. We empower individuals to make mindful food choices, partnering
with clients along the way to optimal health and wellness. Why not become a player
in your healthcare program, rather than a spectator?
What Happens during Counseling?
Changing your eating habits is a process, so is nutrition counseling. Most individuals
cannot change their food habit in a single visit to a nutritionist. During our first
visit, which can be in person in NJ or NYC or via Skype or telephone, I learn about
you.
- What are your health goals?
- What are your symptoms & health concerns?
- What are you eating?
Based on the information that you provide to me, I recommend functional medicine
testing to help guide my nutrition recommendations. For example, if you suffer frequent
headaches I may advise that you have a comprehensive food sensitivity test. Some
tests require blood, which will be drawn at a lab. Others require hair, saliva,
urine, or stool, which you can do at home.
The results of the testing are sent to me. After my receipt, we set up a second
consultation. At this visit, I interpret the test revelations and translate these
into nutrition goals. Together, we work out a realistic nutrition plan based on
your goals to help you change your health outcomes. The plan, of course, includes
food and may include nutrition supplementation and medical foods.
Additional follow-up appointments are scheduled as needed.
Fees & Insurance
Nutrition consultation fees are $100 per half hour. The initial assessment is 1
to 1½ hours and follow-up visits are 30 to 60 minutes.
Because I am a registered dietitian my fees are eligible for reimbursement by health
insurance providers. Though I do not accept insurance, I can provide you with a
coded invoice to submit to your provider.
